Spring Session 2013

The first book club meeting of the semester will be on the 5th of February at 1:30 pm in the conference room 101 E. The book for reading is _Voices in Our Blood_, a literary anthology edited by Jon Meacham. A powerful commentary on the Civil Rights Movement by forty of the nation’s best writers including Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, William Faulkner, John Steinbeck, Alice Walker, Robert Penn Warren, Eudora Welty, and Richard Wright, this book is a must read for Black History Month. Looking forward to great and good participation from the students of Calhoun Community College.

We will consider in particular, ‘Inheritors of Slavery’ by Richard Wright, ‘Notes of a Native Son’ by James Baldwin, ‘American Segregation and the World Crisis’ by James Faulkner, ‘The Moral Aspects of Segregation’ by Benjamin E. Mayes, “Travels with Charley” by John Steinbeck & ‘Choosing to Stay at Home: Ten Years After the March on Washington’ by Alice Walker.
